SAFE (Security Awareness for Everyone) is a program to increase awareness about cybersecurity. By raising awareness, we hope to help change online behaviors, as well as encourage you to practice safe computing habits, make smart and informed decisions about information security, and protect your business.


Phishing continues to be a threat for businesses and individuals. Delivering malware, directing victims to malicious sites to steal data, dollars, and sometimes your identity. An email can even trick us into entering our user names and passwords into fake Google, PayPal, and banking sites. There's so much to think about every time you open an email, but there are signs that can help you recognize a possible phishing email before you rush to click that link or open that document.

Even if you are not one of the covered entities doing business in New York or with their residents, the current SAFE Alert! is a very good reminder that having good cybersecurity controls and protecting your customer's sensitive data appropriately is just good for business. From one successful phishing attack to several process failures, they all add up to a lesson for anyone who is responsible for their customer's personal information, no matter where you are.

It's tax time, and the scammers are out. So, now is a good time to do a quick security check and stay alert for tax time fraudsters.
